Road to Reunion tv series

I only JUST saw a comment on one of my posts from a guy named Chris. He is the casting director for a USO sponsored tv series about military families with loved ones overseas. It sounds like a good show, I would love to watch it, but don't think I'd ever want to be on it, just not my kind of thing.
Have any of you received a comment or message from him?
To be honest the site doesn't look very legit.  I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I just don't like sharing any info about his deployment with anyone, especially not over the internet.
Any thoughts?

Wordless Wednesday

What are you eating mommy?
Can we have some too??

Catch-Up

I've been MIA in the blogging world for a while.  Things have been very busy with work and house-training the new puppy, Cali. But I'm reeeeally going to try and be better at documenting what's going on in our lives...... even though there's really not that much going on, he he.

Anyways, here's a quick DIY project I just finished a few days ago. Got the idea from Stephanie Lynn's Under The Table and Dreaming.  Definitely check out her projects, they are awesome!
Here's my project:

The picture is over our TV in the living room and it looks so cute!
I spent a total of $0 on this project. I had quite a few old frames stashed away, this one in particular came with a matting, so I just printed off the letters & numbers in the sizes I wanted to fit in an 8x10 frame. We have a photo printer, so the entire project was super fast to complete.  I think in Stephanie's project she used a program to stitch the pieces together, but I'm not that computer savvy.

My next project is putting up a little decor in the master bathroom, and also start putting together the guest room.

Moving on...

About a week ago Cali, the new pup went into heat. Aaahhh.... She is only 5 months now, so I definitely did not think it was going to happen so early. I was hoping to get her fixed later this month before I even had to go through a heat cycle, but I guess she was ready.
It's the first time I've ever been around a female dog in heat, let alone take care of one. It was
G-R-O-S-S!
It wasn't all that messy, but the smell....!!!!

She'll be getting fixed pretty soon!!!!

The Tarantula Wasp

These crazy, large critters are everywhere out here in the desert.  They fly around looking like evil fairies, but they are in fact, The Tarantula Wasp.

The Tarantula wasp's body measures around 2 inches, but it's legs and antennae are long, as well as its wings. It has a blue-black body with orange wings.  They are most active in the summers (like now), and during the day time.  The females give them their name, as they need a spider to host their larvae, and in their case, a tarantula is preferred.

The female wasp finds a tarantula by smell. She scampers across the land until she finds a burrow. She enters and expels the spider, then attacks it. She will probe the spider with her antennas, and when the spider lifts its front legs and shows its fangs, she will sting. She might grab one of the spiders legs and flip it over on its back and sting its belly, or approach form the side. Once stung, the tarantula will be paralyzed within seconds for the remainder of its life. The wasp will drink the fluid coming form the wound to replenish her strength from the encounter. She will then drag it back to her own burrow and lay a single egg on the spiders belly, then seal the chamber.

Once the egg hatches, the tiny grub begins to suck and feed on the spiders remains. It continues sucking until it finally rips itself from the spiders body.

Introducing Cali!

Meet Cali, Vegas's new baby sister! She is a 15 week old American Bulldog. She's very timid, loving and happy.

Vegas is having a bit of a hard time adjusting; while he's starting to come around, the first couple of days were a bit hard. At one point, outside, he gathered all his toys and sat on them. But now he enjoys wrestling and playing tug of war with Cali.

Friday Fill-In

Me too! Me too!
Saw this on Wife of a Sailor , and on everyone else's blogs I follow, so I wanted to join in.

1. How did you and your spouse/significant other meet?

My husband and I met in Seoul, South Korea. I was teaching English there, to the cutest, little kindergartners ever! He was stationed there. We met at a club. Not the greatest story to tell the future kids, lol. But maybe we'll just skip the club part. he he. We exchanged numbers and about a month later met for our 1st date :) We continued dating for the rest of the 2 years we spent in Korea. After my contract was complete, and he was done with that duty station, I flew to TX (where his parents live) to see him again. He picked me up at the airport and proposed!! And we lived happily ever after. :)~

2. What is the best thing about being a MilSpouse?
I have so much pride in the fact that my husband is serving our country. I'm proud of the man he has become, because of the military. I've seen him change and grow, mature and become an amazing leader, and I'm so thankful for the military for that.
The benefits aren't that bad either ;)

3. What is the hardest thing about being a MilSpouse?
The good-byes. period.

4. What is your favorite dish?

My husband's spaghetti.

5. If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?
I would provide homes for all the homeless.

Why Me? Wednesday!

Rambling Military Wife

Why Me? Wednesday!
What has YOU saying, "Why me?"

Why did my sprinklers decide to stop working right when I had planted grass seeds? And it's been over 100 degrees for the past few weeks now.  The backyard NEEDS water!

Why did Vegas decide to eat the sprinkler head to the hose around the same time the in ground sprinklers stopped working? Ugh!!

Why did Halo have to get Parvo while I was dog-sitting!? This topped my list of hardest moments to go through while the hubby is deployed. (I'll post this story another time).

Why can I not stop eating the new Pringles whole grain chips!? So good!

Why do all the wasps on post need to feed from the bush right outside my front door!?

Randomness + My 1st Blogging award!

Took some pics of the desert on my morning bike ride. I thought they would be nice, but turns out they just emphasize how boring it is out here.
My morning bike route:

One of the largest mountains on post. I think it's about 30-40 miles around the base. You get some kind of recognition if you hike/walk the whole base of it. But with all the  creepy, crawly creatures out here I will not be doing that any time soon.
These are the desert bushes that are EVERYWHERE. When I ride by them I hear the lizards and/or gophers scatter away. Creepy!

Aside from those blah'ish looking bushes, there are also these gorgeous, blossoming bushes everywhere. I've seen them in white, pink, and this bright fuchsia  color. This particular plant is right outside our backyard gate and actually flows over into our yard.

I cut some off and put them in a vase for out kitchen table =)
Who knew such pretty flowers could grow in the desert!?

This is Tiger (pronounced Tiger, as in the character from Winnie the Pooh) whom I am currently dog sitting. We just got back form a bike ride.
Tiger recently lost her brother to Parvo =(, but that's another story for another time.

Back at our house, there were 2 dogs wondering where I was for over an hour.
They are just too cute!

Operation: Support Black - 4th of July Package

Put together a little 4th of July package to send to the hubs today.
Just a few random things to get in the spirit. Since you can't send fireworks, I thought I'd send Pop Rocks instead... fireworks for the mouth.

But my favorite part were these cute cookies I made! I'm not the greatest at icing cookies, but they didn't turn out too bad =)

Anyone else sending anything for the 4th?

Crepes!

Crepes are my absolute favorite breakfast food. The hubs used to say 'Who would want really thin pancakes?' But now even he loves them =)
So todays breakfast, crepes!
Not just plain crepes. They were filled with raspberries then topped with blueberry syrup. So yummy!
And a side of apple cinnamon muffins with oatmeal granola topping.

If you've never made crepes, they are the easiest thing to make!! I find pancakes to be much harder for some reason, even though crepes are just 'really thin pancakes,' it's just different for some reason.
Here's my recipe (really my Oma's recipe):
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup water (or soda water)
1 tablespoon oil

Mix it all together, and pour into pan, twirl pan around to make them thin, but just a little, flip and serve!

You can find the secret recipe for the Apple Cinnamon muffins here.  ;)

A Day in the Life of Vegas & Beefcake (an extended houseguest)

Now that it's summer, there is lots of sleeping in...

Summertime means spending the afternoons poolside.
But we remember to never swim alone!

Some napping

Playing of course!

An afternoon walk to the field
(somehow Vegas always finds the tiniest twigs to carry around)

Then in the evening, a little cool down by a new found, busted sprinkler system

Blogger Giveaways!

I do love me some free stuff, and even more so I love love love cute giveaways!!

Rambling Military Wife is doing a super cute giveaway and all you have to do is follow her blog, and leave a comment about your favorite summer memory.  Who doesn't love summer memories!? And who doesn't love giveaways!?

Check it out! All the action is happening here on her blog.

The Backyard

So a couple of months ago I took a 'before' pic of our yard. I then planted grass seeds, laid fertilizer AND top soil, watered it multiple times a day, all in hopes of taking an 'after' pic full of luscious green grass.
Here is the progress we've made.
Before:

After:

See any green?
You're right! Here it is, you can probably even count the blades of green grass:
